Who we are

Who are Leatherback Lighting?

We are a permanent architectural lighting company based at 1840 Delaware Pl in Longmont, Colorado, working across Erie, Longmont, Boulder County and the north Denver area. We install one channel of RGBW LEDs under the eave, painted to match your trim, and then look after it for five years, labor included.

We are small on purpose. The service area stays small so we can respond quickly, and the year is capped at 120 permanent systems rather than aimed at a bigger number. The owner has the final say at every step and handles any dispute personally, so there is one person accountable from the first visit to the last year of the warranty.

Straight answers about the system itself

The two brands

How does Leatherback relate to Family Holiday Lighting?

Leatherback Lighting is the permanent architectural lighting brand of Family Holiday Lighting, Longmont's seasonal lighting specialist since 2018. Family Holiday Lighting is the parent company. Leatherback is the brand that installs the permanent systems, the ones that go up once and stay there.

The two names are kept apart on purpose. If you want lighting up for a season and down again in January, that is seasonal work and the other brand does it. If you want one system installed once, color matched to the house and lit every season after that, that is this one. Nothing seasonal is sold on this site, and (720) 986-9449 is the number to call for everything on it.

Credentials

Are you insured and registered?

Yes, and every piece of it is checkable without taking our word for it. Workers' comp is carried on every crew, the general liability is $1M / $2M through Spinnaker Insurance, the Colorado registration is 20241378161 and you can verify it at coloradosos.gov, and the hardware is UL 2108 certified with the certificate sent on request.

An HOA board or a property manager usually wants those on paper before anyone is on a roof, so none of them are kept behind a phone call. The state registration is a public record you can search by number in under a minute. Written confirmation that you are covered under our policy is sent at any time on request, and the UL 2108 certificate comes the same way. Who actually does the work, and when we bring in subcontractors, is answered separately on the questions page.

Insurance and who goes on your roof

Since 2018

How long have you been doing this?

Since 2018. That is when Family Holiday Lighting started lighting the Front Range out of Longmont, and the business has grown every year since. Leatherback is its permanent lighting brand, which is the part of the work that stays on the house.

What that adds up to is 86 installs at Erie addresses, more than twenty businesses lit on Briggs Street in downtown Erie alongside the City of Erie, and 25 Google reviews that are all five stars. Across several Front Range seasons, hail has never damaged an installed run of ours. That is the sort of thing only time tells you, which is the honest argument for asking how long somebody has been doing this.

How the work is set up

Small on purpose, for reasons that are mostly boring.

Three decisions shape what it is like to buy from us, and none of them are about lighting.

We stay close to home

Erie is where the company is from and the shop is at 1840 Delaware Pl in Longmont, about fifteen minutes up the road from it.

The service area stays small so we can respond quickly. That matters more in year three of a warranty than it does on the day you sign.

120 systems a year is a cap

It is a ceiling, not a target. Every system carries five years of warranty with labor included, so the number we take on is the number we can still be looking after in year five.

Our own installers do the work, trained on documented procedures that are the same on every job, which is what makes one install look like the last one.

We buy the parts direct

We source directly from factories and use commercial-grade materials rather than what a big box store has on the shelf.

The hardware is UL 2108 certified and the certificate is sent on request. Businesses ask for it first, and it is the same answer for a house.

The mascot

Where the name came from.

The company is named after the leatherback sea turtle, the largest sea turtle there is. They grow up to seven feet long and weigh over two thousand pounds, and where every other turtle has a hard shell, theirs is made of a rubbery skin. They cross thousands of miles of open ocean and turn up in every ocean on the planet, from the tropics to the poles.

They are also in trouble. A floating plastic bag looks a lot like a jellyfish, which is the leatherback's favorite food, and longline and gillnet fishing gear accounts for much of the rest. Installing lighting on a roofline does not save a sea turtle and we are not going to suggest otherwise. What helps is ordinary: fewer plastic bags, waste bottles disposed of properly, and support for the conservation organizations doing the actual work.
